It's well known that the most valuable Czechoslovakian stamps are those with "Pošta Československá 1919" overprint. But who ever you tell that you collect Czechoslovakian stamps, his first question is: Do you own "Kde domov můj?" sheets? We can establish, although these sheets are not the most valuable or rarest, they are the most well known! That warms a collectors heart. Despite this, there still are some unexplored parts. I have in mind the size of these sheets. We know that they may be found in two different sizes, and that this depends on, how the damp paper was put into the printing press, either along the fibers, or opposite of their direction. |
Že nejdražší známky ČSR jsou ty s přetiskem "Pošta Československá 1919", to dobře víme. Ale když komukoliv řeknete, že sbíráte známky Československa, okamžitě se Vás zeptá: Máte taky aršíky "Kde domov můj?" Z toho je vidět, že i když ani zdaleka tyto aršíky nepatří k nejdražšími a nejvzácnějšími známkám ČSR, jsou zato nejznámější! A to každého jejich majitele určitě potěší. Ale přestože jsou nejznámější, i u nich nacházíme "nezorané pole". Jedním z nich jsou jejich rozměry. Že jsou ve dvouch velikostech, to víme. A že je to důsledkem použitého postupu tisku, kdy byl navlhčený papír vkládán do stroje ve směru jeho vláken, nebo naopak kolmo na tento směr, to nakonec z literatury víme také. |

We also know, that many of these sheets have obviously been cut - and why? Unfortunately, in the 1930th until the 1960th sizes of the common albums didn't fit these sheets.... So, that's the simple and tragic answer why so many of these wonderful and rare sheets have been cut. |
Naneštěstí od 1930-tých až do 1960-tých let nepasovaly velikosti obyčejných alb velikosti aršíků. Z této jednoduché príčiny bylo jich velké množství částečně zastřižené a tim i zničené. |

As far as I know, nobody has until now had at his disposal so many sheets at the same time, so he could make a representative statistics. Dear collectors, please help me with that! If you own KDM sheets, please send me by mail their size. By this way we can build up representative statistics, for future help to future collectors. Please use an exact ruler, and measure by the tenth of mm. |

There is always a small tolerance because of the cutting “guillotine” method in which the blade moved fractionally as it went through the pile meeting the resistance of the paper – this is the same with the German & Austrian souvenir sheets where they indicate a 1 – 1˝ mm tolerance in most cases. Na aršících se nachází malé odchylky jejich rozměrů, které jsou důsledkem řezáním "gilotinou". Je to metoda při které se často nůž poněkud posunul, což záviselo na odporu, který nastal při jeho procházení štočkem aršíků. Stejnou metodou byly ořezávány i německé a rakouské pamětní aršíky, které mají skoro vždy rozdíly ve velikosti 1 - 1˝ mm, což je normální tolerance. Zdraví tě Mike |

"I saw your site on the web, and I like your idea to build up a statistic of sizes of "KDM? 1934" sheets. During the time I made preparations for a new CSR I catalogue, I built up a similar statistic. I hope that I still have it and in Pofis stock, we own at least ten pairs of sheets. I will send it to you, so your statistics will increase in numbers." |

I hope you can understand them. At the same time I have added a scan of KDM sheets, with the measure method, which I received after an old German collector. In person I don't like his dividing up in Types, but I still hope, that it will interest you." |
“V příloze vám posílám své poznámky o rozměrech aršíků KDM. Máte tam uvedené rozměry tisku, rozměry papíru aršíků a rozměry tisku známek - snad se v tom vyznáte. Současně posílám starý obrázek aršíků s vyznačením způsobu měření, který se mi dostal do rukou po jednom německém sběrateli. Osobně mám na věc jiný názor (výraz "typy" mi připadá nepatřičný), ale možná vás to i tak bude zajímat.“ |

The scan, which dr. Beneš mentioned in his mail, is redone and added in my table with "KDM? 1934" sizes. You can use it as directions for use, how to measure your sheets. It's important, that all of you use the same method. I believe many of you ask you self what's this good for? Here is the explanation: The size of the sheet, is not important when you divide the sheets in narrow or wide size, because you can never be sure if it has been cut. But the "Size of the impression" always has the original size and has a straight connection with the size of the sheet. This is the actual situation, how far our research has come, till today, after maximally amount of "KDM? 1934" sheets. Please, help me to increase our research! |
Obrázek, o němž dr. F. Beneš píše ve svém mailu, jsem přepracoval a zařadil do záhlaví své tabulky rozměrů aršíků, jako určitý návod, abychom všichni rozměr jejich tisku měřili stejným způsobem. A to je tedy aktuální stav, v němž se nyní naše pátrání po co největším počtu rozměru aršíku "KDM? 1934" k dnešnímu dni, nachází. Jistě nejeden z Vás čtenárů pomyslí na to „k čemu ty rozměry budou dobré?“ Skutečně důležitý pro zařazení aršíku do skupiny „široký“ nebo „úzký“ není rozměr jejich papíru, u nějž nikdy není jisté zda není dodatečně zmenšený, ale rozměr jejich tisku, který navíc s /původním/ rozměrem papíru přímo souvisí, a přitom je případnými dodatečnými zásahy nezměněný. Osobně doufám, že v budoucnosti katalogy nebudou pouze uvádět velikosti aršíků, ale naopak velikosti širokého a úzkého tisku, které jak již víme dodatečnými zásahy jsou nezměnitelné.
